Featured in The Standard: Kairos Puts Contactless Wine Aeration to the Test
Can a few seconds change the way a wine tastes? The Standard put Kairos to the test — from everyday supermarket bottles to more complex reds — with impressive results.
In a recent independent review, The Standard explored how Kairos is rethinking one of wine’s oldest rituals: aeration.
Traditional decanting relies on time and contact with air. Kairos takes a different approach. Using electromagnetic wave technology, it is designed to accelerate the aeration experience without ever touching the wine.
Simply place Kairos beside the glass, select an aeration time from 15 to 90 seconds, and let the technology do the rest.
Putting Kairos to the Test
Rather than testing Kairos with just one bottle, The Standard tried the device across a selection of wines to see whether the difference could actually be tasted.
With a Zuccardi Serie A Malbec 2021, the reviewer found the fruit character became fuller and the finish more refined.
An Esporão Organic Red Reserva 2021 showed greater elegance, with its tannins becoming softer, while a sharper Macedonian Kratosija became noticeably rounder and more balanced.
Even white wine responded differently. While the change was more subtle, the reviewer found that aeration helped mellow the wine’s acidity.
The most interesting conclusion, however, came from testing Kairos with everyday bottles.
The review found that affordable supermarket reds could become smoother and more vibrant after using Kairos — leading The Standard to describe the experience as making inexpensive bottles taste considerably more premium.
A New Approach to an Old Ritual
What makes Kairos different is not simply speed.
Because the device never comes into contact with the wine, there is no pouring through an aerator, no additional vessel and no cleaning between glasses.
Kairos can also work across multiple glasses at once, making the experience as natural at a dinner table as it is during a personal tasting.
It is technology designed not to replace the ritual of wine, but to make one part of that ritual simpler.
Wine, Refined in Seconds
The verdict from The Standard highlighted exactly what Kairos was created to achieve: a smoother, richer and more expressive glass of wine, without waiting for traditional decanting.
For us, it represents something bigger.
Wine has centuries of tradition behind it. We believe technology can respect that tradition while giving wine lovers new ways to experience what is already inside the bottle.
Sometimes, all it takes is a few seconds.
